We are always looking outward for that which we desire. However if we were to take time to look within we would soon realize that we already have it, in fact we are it….(I’d like to get far more in-depth but I’m afraid I’ll lose you)
The reason I love fitness is because it is a constant reminder of this fact. Let’s take the two most common fitness goals, lose weight or build muscle. Weight loss is simply an emptying of your fat cells, you don’t actually lose anything. From the day you are born you have the same exact amount of fat cells till the day you die. They simply empty or fill and as a result you change externally. The same is true for muscle building. You are born with the same amount of muscle fibers. Try as you might you can’t build any new muscle, all you can do is make the ones you already have expand by increasing their density. So in both cases the external you is simply a manifestation of the internal you. Knowing this you should realize that you can give up control and stop fighting yourself. Which will give you an access of power because you won’t be wasting energy in self defense trying to manage things and force things to conform to your will. That wasted energy will be available to you.
As a personal trainer I find that I am constantly helping people let you. The most basic exercise is a squat. We have been squatting perfectly from we learned how to walk. Interestingly no one taught us how. However somehow as we age we get caught up in the control trap. We try to hold on to and control every aspect of our life. So ask an adult to squat and see what happens. It becomes a forced act and the most common mistake you will see is people leading with their knees because to squat your knees must bend. Interestingly you should not bend your knees when you squat, you should simply hinge at your hips. All your joints are interconnected, movement of one joint causes global movement, every other joint will automatically do what needs to be done to allow the movement to occur….So let go and realize you already are everything you want to be, you just simply have to let go and let nature take its natural course.
“We suffer from a hallucination, from a false and distorted sensation of our own existence as living organisms. Most of us have the sensation that “I myself” is a separate center of feeling and action, living inside and bounded by the physical body — a center which “confronts” an “external” world of people and things, making contact through the senses with a universe both alien and strange. Everyday figures of speech reflect this illusion. “I came into this world.” “You must face reality.” “The conquest of nature.”
This feeling of being lonely and very temporary visitors in the universe is in flat contradiction to everything known about man (and all other living organisms) in the sciences. We do not “come into” this world; we come out of it, as leaves from a tree. As the ocean “waves,” the universe “peoples.” Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe. This fact is rarely, if ever, experienced by most individuals. Even those who know it to be true in theory do not sense or feel it, but continue to be aware of themselves as isolated “egos” inside bags of skin.” ~ Alan Watts
